Gallery Openings on a Saturday Night

I am always so relieved when art gallery openings happen on the weekends. More people show up and I can stay out late! These two receptions this Saturday in Silver Lake would be the perfect pre-party stop.
Metro Gallery hosts a dual opening for Sonia Romero and Connie Gregory. Romero's folk art inspired paintings and prints will echo her family's rich influence on the LA art scene - her parents are renowned Chicano artists Nancy & Frank Romero. Gregory's pieces verge on the spooky side with elephant boys, wide eyed cats in little girl dresses, and tiny deer showing up in her paintings. She calls the collection "Tales From The Root Cellar".

The gallery known as Junc throws an opening for two image designer/illustrators. Justin Wood throws linear and non-linear storytelling into his technology inspired illustrations and gets quite a bit of magazine work. Highly recognized Oksana Badrak's illustrations explore otherworldly elements and get a little naughty. You can buy her prints through Thumbtack Press, a great online art resource.
